Battling Invasive Beetles on Oahu

The Coconut Rhinoceros Beetles have devastated many palms all over Hawaii.

Don’t let your palm trees be next.

The coconut rhinoceros beetle (CRB) has already caused extensive damage to palm trees on Oahu and is now spreading to other Hawaiian islands. These beetles feed on the sap of trees, weakening and often killing them. Many other species of trees are also affected including fan palms, royal palms, plumerias, bananas and taro. Without immediate action, Hawaii risks losing its iconic coconut trees, disrupting ecosystems, and harming cultural and economic activities tied to these trees. Preventing further spread is critical to avoid long-term devastation.

ABOUT US

Pacific Palm Rescue was founded on the North Shore of Oahu with a simple mission: to protect and preserve Hawaii’s iconic coconut trees from the devastating effects of the coconut rhinoceros beetle (CRB). After seeing our own trees, and those of our friends being attacked by these invasive pests, we knew we had to act. The potential loss of coconut trees across the islands pushed us to search for effective solutions to stop the spread of CRB.

CRB Prevention Services

How It Works

  • 1

After assessing your trees we will drill up to 10 holes at the base around the base of the tre and inject our non-toxic pesticide free product into the root ball of the tree

  • 2

The treatment will work its way up from the roots to the crown, suffocating any CRB and larva in its path. Every fiber of the tree will be protected from being destroyed by the CRB. They choke on the EPA approved nano soap particle (also found in toothpaste)

  • 3

We will return every six months to do a “drench” of the roots. No drilling needed on second treatment. Best results when treated before infestation to keep CRB away from the tree

Why Nanotek 2000?

Our approach focuses on natural and sustainable methods to treat and protect trees. We believe in finding eco-friendly solutions that work in harmony with the unique environment of Hawaii, avoiding the use of harmful chemicals. Our goal is not only to protect our beloved coconut trees but also to preserve the natural beauty and ecosystem of the islands for future generations.

The state has been using imidacloprid for 7 years to treat CRB infected trees, which has proven to be ineffective in eradicating the beetle. Injections of this pesticide require constant trimming of flowers and pollen to prevent pollinators such as bees from being killed. A small amount of imidacloprid can kill thousands of bees.

Effectiveness

Successfully used across Oahu and Molokai over the past year. Successfully used in mid-east countries for 9 years. Proven effective for 1-2 years. Works on all trees, not just palms. Also effective in killing red beetles in plumeria trees.

No Resistance

With other pesticides, insects can build up a resistance eventually rendering it useless. The beetles have no protection from choking on nano soap particles.

Non-Toxic

No cancer causing or neurological substances to poison humans, animals, or the environment. Protective equipment is not necessary in order to apply the product. No contamination of fruit!

Environmentally Friendly

EPA Approved. No poisoning of soil, water, or pollinators (bees). Consists of only one manmade ingredient: Sodium Laurel Sulfate (also found in toothpaste).
